Stay in School is a project that aims to reduce the barriers that compromise school success rates. It does this by providing sustainable, multi-faceted arts and science based educational support for marginalized communities in Quebec. McGill University’s Faculty of Education partners with local elementary and secondary schools, and community organizations, to encourage students to pursue and continue their education as a means to achieving their goals.
Stay in School is based upon the collaboration and partnership of McGill University, the Commission Scolaire de Montréal (CSDM), the English Montreal School Board (EMSB), the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and the Montreal Science Centre. Stay in School is deeply committed to its partnerships, and to responding to the needs of teachers and students to make significant progress in the critical goal of reducing drop-out rates.
By equitably increasing access to experiential learning opportunities in the arts and sciences across diverse communities, Stay in School will draw on the rich pedagogical resources available in McGill University’s Faculty of Education, Science Faculties, and its partner-organizations. It aims to enhance the quality of teaching and learning at the levels of elementary and university education, as well as to provide meaningful professional development for pre-service teachers and teachers currently employed in the education system.
